Ibiza is a Mediterranean island that many associate with overindulgence. While the ravers head south you'll find us making a beeline for its quieter north on a holiday to Ibiza, where the bohemian vibes filter through the rural hamlets, emerald forests and sunset skies. This is where you can discover the island's soul among the remote rocky coves, rugged walking trails and traditional farmhouses that dot its core. This peaceful corner of Ibiza is also perfect for exploring the rest of island, from the authentic village of Santa Gertrudis – which many describe as Ibiza's answer to Notting Hill – to the UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila, Ibiza's fortified old town. Ibiza holidays don't have to mean beach clubs and all-nighters – you can discover excesses of a more authentic variety on this charming Mediterranean isle.

Like the rest of the Mediterranean, Ibiza has a distinct summer season (May to October) and off season (November to April).

May to October sees the island at its most alive, with all of the seasonal businesses, shops and restaurants open. The weather is hot and dry, peaking in the late 20s (°C) during July and August with little to no rainfall. As you'd expect, this time of the year draws the most visitors and while there are more people on the beaches and strolling the streets of its historic towns and villages, it creates a genuinely feel-good buzz throughout the island. If you'd prefer to avoid some of the crowds but still want a slice of the fabulous weather, then we'd recommend travelling in either May, September or October at either end of the summer season. Travel later in the season if you want to swim in balmier waters, with the Mediterranean at its warmest between July and September.

Don't write off a holiday during Ibiza's off season. While many seasonal businesses may close and the weather a little cooler and more unpredictable, the island is at its quietest. This gives you the chance to explore at your own behest without seeing many other souls along the way. Locals reclaim their island during the winter months, offering you the chance to experience one of its many festivals during this time, like the Festes de Sant Josep. Come the spring, make sure you spend some time hiking through Ibiza's countryside to witness the blooming wildflowers and almond blossoms.
